The problem

If your mind keeps running, you do too.

Overthinking isn't a personality flaw. It's a habit the brain learns — and habits can be retrained. Here are the patterns that show up when the noise is loud:

  • Replaying conversationsThe chat that ended weeks ago still loops at 2 a.m.
  • Constant "what if?" thinkingImagining every possible outcome before making a single decision.
  • Difficulty making decisionsEven small ones — the email, the message, what to say — become a drain.
  • Fear of making the wrong choiceThe search for certainty becomes louder than the choice itself.
  • Overanalysing people's behaviourRe-reading texts, replaying tone, building stories from small cues.
  • Self-doubtQuietly wondering if you're really cut out for the work, the role, the life.
  • Fear of judgementHolding back the post, the pitch, the opinion — for what people might say.
  • Can't switch off at nightThe bed becomes a place to think, not a place to rest.
  • Procrastination fuelled by overthinkingPutting off the start because starting means risking it.
  • Mentally exhausted — for nothingTired by 11 a.m., with nothing physical to point it at.
"Most people I work with aren't broken — they're just tired. Tired of arguing with their own head." — A line we keep returning to in The Clean Mind
Why it happens

Overthinking isn't a flaw. It's a loop.

The brain is doing what brains do — scanning for threats, replaying problems, trying to control outcomes by thinking harder. The trouble is, the more you think, the more the loop runs. The loop rewards more thinking, not less — and that's how you end up exhausted by lunch, nothing having actually happened.

The good news: loops can be interrupted. Not by forcing yourself to "stop thinking," but by learning to notice the loop when it starts, respond differently, and put your attention somewhere deliberate.

That's the practice.
The shift

From noise to clarity.

The goal isn't to never think again. It's to recognise unhelpful loops early, respond differently, and take action with a clearer head.

Where you are now

  • Overthinking on repeat
  • Mental noise that won't quit
  • Self-doubt before action
  • Decision paralysis
  • A quiet, low-grade fear

Where the practice takes you

  • Clarity on what matters now
  • A calmer, quieter baseline
  • Confidence to begin before you're sure
  • Better decisions, made faster
  • Focused action over more thinking

Orthopaedic Surgeon · Mindset & Peak Performance Coach

I'm Dr. Jyothish Nambiar — consultant orthopaedic surgeon (MBBS, MS Orthopaedics, DNB Orthopaedics, MRCS Edinburgh). I spend my weekdays in the operating room, where a single distracted thought can change an outcome. So attention, calm and steady hands aren't optional — they're part of the job.

For more than a decade I've also been studying and practising the other side of that work — mindset, meditation, psychology, and the science of peak performance. The Clean Mind is where both halves meet: the discipline of the operating room, applied to how you think.

This is educational mindset and performance coaching. It's not psychiatric treatment or therapy — it's practical, doctor-guided work on how you respond to your own thoughts.

The practice

How it actually works.

Not a course you binge. Not a habit that needs motivation. A small daily practice that builds the baseline you wanted in the first place.

01

Short, daily

Around ten minutes a day is the practice. Short enough to keep, long enough to actually shift something.

02

Plain, evidence-informed

No jargon, no therapy-speak. Practical psychology and breath work — the same tools that steady a surgeon's hand.

03

Yours to keep

The first thing I noticed was the overthinking slowing down. Not gone — just quieter. A small daily thing that actually stuck.

Nothing is dressed up. Ten minutes, no drama. I started it during a heavy work stretch and the difference in how I sleep was real within a week.

As a fellow doctor, I'd usually roll my eyes at this kind of thing. The Clean Mind is different — the same quiet rigour I'd expect from a good clinician, applied to the mind.

I used to overthink every small decision at work. Two weeks of the practice and the noise is just quieter. Not gone — just quieter. That's the win.
